Biography
Edward Burton was the second but eldest surviving son of Sir Edward Burton, knight, of Eastbourne in Sussex, and Mary Perrin. He was educated at Magdalen Hall, Oxford, where he matriculated 12 April 1616, aged 20, and took his B.A. 14 May 1616. He took his M.A. from Magdalen College 4 February 1619, and his B.D. and D.D. on 9 July 1629, at which time he was a King's Chaplain. He was Rector of Seddlescombe in 1628, of Westham in 1638, and of Broadwater in 1649, all three in Sussex.
