Rowett Research Institute (Reid Library) Collection

Constituted primarily of pre-1860 titles extracted from the Reid Library collections of the Rowett Research Institute (1923-2015), Bucksburn, Aberdeen. A further eleven printed items written by the Institute's first director, John Boyd Orr, Baron Boyd Orr (1880-1971), nutritional physiologist and Nobel laureate, were added from its archive in 2016.

Strengths: Monographs and journals on agricultural topics in Britain, especially eighteenth century and early nineteenth century. The books include over 50 titles from the family library of Sir Archibald Grant of Monymusk (1696-1778), sometime member of Parliament for Aberdeenshire, bearing his distinctive bookplate.

Custodial history/provenance: Volumes formerly held at Reid Library, Rowett Research Institute, and primarily transferred to Special Collections Centre as part of the Reid's phased dispersal to other sites, prior to the closure of Institute in 2014/2015. A further eleven printed items from added to the Collection from the Institute's archive in 2016.
