What is R?

Like Python, R is an open-source programming language, but it's better suited to data analysis and statistical computing.

At the University you will be more likely to encounter R if you are in the fields of Data or Biological Science, but as the software is OpenSource it can be learned and accessed by anyone, and includes

• an effective data handling and storage facility
• a suite of operators for calculations on arrays
• a large, coherent, integrated collection of intermediate tools for data analysis
