Leiden is a city in the Dutch province of South Holland. It’s known for its centuries-old architecture and for Leiden University itself, due to the University's history dating back as far as 1575. The University houses the Hortus botanicus Leiden Botanical Garden, founded in 1590, where the tulip was introduced to Western Europe and has since become a symbol of the Netherlands. The Netherlands are known for their amazing museums and cultural experiences, and Leiden is no exception. They also have a weekly Saturday market and over 2800 monumental buildings. Second only to Amsterdam, Leiden is the city with the greatest quantity of water flowing through its city centre, therefore a sunny day calls for a lovely boat tour on the canals.
