Many universities worldwide offer short term mobility programmes, normally summer or winter schools taking place over semester breaks, allowing you to gain an international experience and enrich your CV.
Funding
Most host institutions will charge a tuition or participation fee for summer/winter schools. If the programme is offered at one of our partner universities the fee may be discounted, waived or additional benefits like free accommodation offered. Where discounts or benefits are available to Aberdeen students this is noted in the information below.

JGU Mainz 2026 GO Heimat Summer School
This year's GO (Global Outreach) project includes a week of interdisciplinary academic talks focusing on “Heimat” (home or homeland), climate change and migration at JGU Mainz, and a second week of collaborative project work with schools in Ahrweiler. The project will end with the Scot-t Fest, during which you will have the opportunity to showcase your research. The project's main language will be English, so all students can apply, whether they know German or not. There is an optional two-week German language course at the start of June you can sign up for, in addition to the programme, to improve your language skills.
- Duration: 14 June - 28 June 2026
- Tuition Fee: Approximately €350. Students can apply for Turing funding towards their costs, with widening access students prioritised for these limited funded spaces. Please note that the funding application is separate (see info below).

KU Eichstätt Ingolstadt - Summer School 2026
The Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU) gives students and professionals from all over the world the opportunity to study abroad in the heart of Bavaria. Students can choose between three different courses that include language classes to suit your level of proficiency (A2-C1 levels). Students will gain valuable insights into German and Bavarian cultural traditions, literature and history, and also have the chance to visit iconic landmarks. Osnabrück University Summer School
Osnabrück University is offering three levels of German Language and Culture summer schools this year with various levels and lengths. The A1 level course and A2 level course offer participants with no prior knowledge of the German language the opportunity to acquire the foundations of German and to experience more than 1000 years of German culture and civilization in and around the city of Osnabrück, the City of Peace. By the end of the program, students will have mastered basic language skills in German equivalent to level A1 or A2. The Advanced Intensive German course offers the same, with the opportunity to deepen your knowledge of the language for students who already have an A2/B1 level of German. All students will be able to participate in a cultural programme including guided tours, exhibition visits and an excursion to the Northern Sea.

Tübingen International & European Studies Summer School 2026
The University of Tübingen is offering two periods of summer schools for 2026, with two different topics per session. Students attending the June session can choose between 'Society, Misinformation, and AI in Europe' and 'Sustainability, Biodiversity, and Ethics in Europe'. The August session will offer courses on 'The EU in Permanent Crisis?' and 'Representing the European Past in Cross-Cultural Communities'. All courses include parallel German language courses for students from A0-A2 level. The summer school includes a social and cultural programme to help students explore the sights of Tübingen and immerse in German culture.

The HKUST Summer UG Research Program is a research placement for students who are passionate in doing research and would love the opportunity to work alongside HKUST faculty on research projects. This hands-on experience will allow them to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios, develop research skills, and contribute to meaningful work in their field of interest. Additionally, it fosters mentorship relationships, helping students navigate their academic paths while enhancing their resumes with valuable research experience. The AIU Summer Program is a six-week, intensive Japanese language and culture study program designed for highly motivated undergraduate students around the world. ITESO, Universidad Jesuita de Guadalajara - International Summer Program
Limited tuition fee-waived spaces available
The International Summer Program at ITESO offers course taught in English and Spanish, taught jointly by an ITESO and an international professor. All courses (except Spanish Language) are co-taught with international professors and ITESO professors. Courses are offered in Spanish, English, or both. Students enrolling in courses offered in Spanish must prove a B2 level of Spanish and for those offered in both Spanish and English - a B1 level of Spanish is required. Students will take classes with ITESO students. The taught topics range from Astronomy, to Chemistry, Entrepreneurship, to Photography.
