The University of Santiago de Compostela was founded in 1495, making it one of the oldest universities in the World. In its long history, the University of Santiago de Compostela has amassed a great cultural and scientific heritage, and its two campuses in Santiago de Compostela and Lugo have an abundant natural and architectural heritage. In 2006, the University along with the Consortium of Santiago de Compostela established the Program ConCiencia, and since 2008 it has awarded the Fonseca Prize in science communication.
Santiago de Compostela is located in the autonomous community of Galicia close to the Northwestern Atlantic coast of Spain. As a beautiful and vibrant city full of enchanting architecture and history, Santiago de Compostela is also a famous pilgrimage destination for thousands of Catholics from all over the World. The University offers a vibrant student life with various activities for culture and sports. Moreover, the city is one of the safest in Spain and you can walk almost everywhere in the city!
