The history of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) dates all the way back to January, 1632 when Gerardus Vossius opened the Athenaeum Illustre, the predecessor of the University of Amsterdam, with his inaugural lecture 'De historiae utilitate' (On the usefulness of history). So what better place to study history than here? UvA is a multicultural institution with over 100 nationalities represented through staff and students alike.
Consistently ranking among some of the highest rated universities in the world, there is a lot of reassurance that this is a great place to study.
Amsterdam is a city rich with culture, filled with museums, amazing food and night life - there really is something for everyone. The UvA campuses are conveniently in the heart of the city so you can explore at ease. One of the core values of UvA is diversity and inclusion, and so they campaign to reduce inequality, remove barriers and ensure everyone has equal opportunities at their university.
