Founded in 1976, Maastricht University is the youngest university in the Netherlands, yet it has already achieved a reputation for excellence for its academic programs and learning methods. It is situated in Maastricht, a small city with a rich history and culture, and active social life. Maastricht is known for its flamboyant lifestyle: good food, good living and plenty joie de vivre! The Faculty of Law at Maastricht University consists of approximately 3000 students and 365 staff members. It is the most international oriented law faculty in the Netherlands, with a focus in European, International and Comparative Law.
Maastricht University uses a teaching style, known as Problem-Based Learning (PBL). PBL is an active way of learning that gives students better retention of knowledge, enhances motivation and encourages students to develop skills that are essential for the labour market in the 21st century. The beauty of the unique teaching style founded by the university means that you have the freedom to organise your own days, therefore you have ample opportunities to explore your surroundings at your own pace. The city is very culturally diverse which leads to amazing international experiences on offer. For instance, there are weekly markets and a number of theatres, museums and music venues. Maastricht is in the Netherlands, however it is very close to both Germany and Belgium for further exploring.
