Complutense University of Madrid

Located in the heart of Spain, the current Complutense University of Madrid was founded by Cardinal Cisneros as a result of the “Inter cetera” Papal Bull granted by Pope Alexander VI on 13 April 1499. Complying with the European university systems, study programmes at the Complutense consist of three cycles: Undergraduate, Master's and PhD programmes, which have been accredited by the Spanish National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA). UCM consistently appears as one of the leading Spanish institutions in international university rankings.

The Complutense University has two campuses in Madrid: Moncloa and Somosaguas with some other university premises being located in the centre of Madrid. There are easy connections to UCM from Madrid Barajas Airport and Madrid's extensive public transport system is convenient and easy to use. Somosaguas Campus is located in the residential area of Somosaguas, in the western outskirts of Madrid, where teaching and administrative buildings are surrounded by green open spaces. Inaugurated in 1927, the Ciudad Universitaria was conceived as an integrated campus where education, science and culture would merge harmoniously with each other. The Campus Moncloa project endeavours to take the lead in responding to the challenges of the 21st century, namely knowledge and sustainable development.
