Rhodes College Scholarship

The Rhodes College Scholarship application is now open for 2026/27.

This is an excellent opportunity for a University of Aberdeen student from a financially disadvantaged background to benefit from the opportunity to study at Rhodes College in Tennessee.

What is the Rhodes College Scholarship?

The Rhodes College Scholarship was established by a Rhodes College donor, and is available for two University of Aberdeen students going on exchange to Rhodes College for a single semester each. Preference will be given to British and Irish passport holders, although students holding other passports may be considered.

The scholarship is designed to help with housing and board.  The successful applicant will receive up to $7,000.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible, students must be from a financially disadvantaged background. If you believe you meet the criteria below, we would encourage you to apply:

1. Students with low household income or low socio-economic status (including those with an annual household income of £35,000 or less).

2. Students in receipt of a University scholarship or bursary that was awarded on the basis of financial need.

3. Students receiving Universal Credit or income-related benefits because they are financially supporting themselves, or financially supporting themselves and someone who is dependent on them and living with them, such as a child or partner.

Applicants will be required to submit evidence.

What are the criteria?

The successful Scholar is expected to be a good Ambassador for the University of Aberdeen and Scotland.

The recipient must write a letter of thanks to the donor during their exchange.

In order to receive the scholarship, you must be able to meet the requirements of your degree calendar while on exchange at Rhodes College. Please review their course catalogue carefully and confirm that they teach your degree subject(s), and that they offer courses similar to those which you would have studied in Aberdeen if you were not going abroad.

How do I apply?

To apply, students are requested to upload a short video of up to two minutes OR a statement of motivation (600 words) explaining why they believe they would be a suitable candidate to receive the Rhodes College Scholarship.

Please note, the application process for this scholarship is separate from our main Study Exchange Application. To be eligible, you must include Rhodes College as one of your choices on your Exchange Study Plan (ESP).

The scholarship application deadline is 23:59 on Friday 30 January 2026.
