Founded in 1834 to create a university in the new Belgian capital after the 9 provinces unified in 1830, the university prides itself on its diversity and high teaching standards. Known for groundbreaking research and the alma mater of numerous Nobel prize winners the university strives to maintain high standards in all 12 faculties. The university is a multicultural and international institution with a third of its students and researchers coming from abroad and they have a strong focus on linguistic and cultural diversity. The university fosters an environment that allows students the opportunity to strive for academic excellence.
The university campus is based in Brussels, the capital of Belgium. It has many societies and events, particularly Saint-Verhaegen day which celebrates the founder of the University. The university is not only an academic institution but is part of a vibrant city with lots going on!
