What can I expect?

The day has been designed to allow you to personalise your visit by choosing from a variety of activities. You will have the opportunity to visit student support stands and attend general talks throughout the morning in Elphinstone Hall. Academic sessions will be taking place in the afternoon.

You are encouraged to attend academic sessions for the subject/s you hold an offer for. Activities will vary depending on the subject - they may include information sessions on courses you can select, mock lectures, tours of labs and facilities, or speaking with current students.

International visitors are also invited to speak with a member of our International team in Elphinstone Hall throughout the morning. Staff would be delighted to discuss any questions you have about moving to Scotland, preparation before you join, and things to consider before September.

Guided and Self-Guided Campus Tours

Tours of Campus

Take a tour of our King's College campus with one of our student ambassadors. As you will see during your visit, Aberdeen has one of the most atmospheric and welcoming campuses in the UK, and one of the best ways to see it in its full glory is by taking a guided tour.

Tours will begin from Elphinstone Lawn, running throughout the day. Each tour lasts approximately 45 minutes.

The Sir Duncan Rice Library

With a £57m investment the doors to the Sir Duncan Rice Library first opened in 2012, containing the largest of the University's collections, including Arts, Humanities, Sciences and Social Sciences, as well as providing over 1,200 study spaces and computers on every floor.

A gallery exhibition space is located on the ground floor of the library and has an ongoing programme of exhibitions showcasing a variety of aspects of the University's Special Collections.

Feel free to stop by throughout the day and take a self-guided tour.

Taylor Law Library

Taylor Library is the University of Aberdeen's specialist law library. It houses the law collections, the Official Publication Collections and the EU OP Office (former EDC).

Feel free to stop by throughout the day and take a self-guided tour.

Hillhead Accommodation

Hillhead Student Village is our largest student accommodation complex comprising of self-catered and catered accommodation. A shuttle bus will run from outside King's Chapel, adjacent to Elphinstone Lawn. You will be met off the bus by one of our staff members who will be happy to answer any questions you have. Return bus journeys will depart from outside the Central Building at Hillhead.

Aberdeen Sports Village and Aquatics Centre

The University of Aberdeen is one of the most successful institutions in sporting competitions and aims to be the centre of excellence for sport in North-East Scotland with its world class sports and aquatics facility.

Self-Guided tours of the Aberdeen Sports Village and Aquatics Centre will be available throughout the day, departing from Elphinstone Lawn.

Student Union Building

The Student Union Building on Elphinstone Road is the one-stop-shop for our students with a wealth of services available. The Aberdeen University Student Association (AUSA), Student Advice and Support Office, and the Careers Service are all located here. These facilities are provided to assist students with any queries that they may have in a relaxed and friendly environment. You can also find Union Brew, various shops, and a food court with a wealth of outlets.

The Student Union Building will be open to allow you to drop in for a chat and a hot drink.

Cruickshank Botanic Gardens

The Botanic Gardens are located at the northern end of the King's College Campus. This beautiful and peaceful 11-acre garden offers year-round interest to visitors, and is popular with staff and students as a quiet spot for a lunchtime picnic or simply to spend some time away from the hustle and bustle of the main campus. It has shrub borders, a rock and water, rose and sunken gardens, herbaceous border and an arboretum. It houses a nationally important collection of over 2,500 labelled plants.

Feel free to take a walk round the gardens and enjoy the peace and variety of plants and wildlife located there.
