Engaging organisations across Scotland's regional supply chains with nature-based food solutions to improve public and planetary health
The Rowett Regional Research Roadshows will run from 11am-3pm in the following locations:
Dumfries: 21 April 2026
Glasgow: 22 April 2026
Mull: 19 May 2026
Oban: 20 May 2026
Aviemore: 2 July 2026
Inverness: 3 July 2026
These engagement events bring together organisations across regional supply chains to discuss examples of nature-based food solutions to improve the climate resilience and health credentials of currently produced crops, as well as the introduction of alternative crops to provide environmentally beneficial and healthy foods.
They will facilitate discussion around building and supporting supply chains, as well as the necessary evidence required for effective strategies for food production, including best practice for utilisation of less favourable land.
As highlighted in Scotland’s Climate Change Plan (2018-2032) our future landscape will look very different having to accommodate increased urban spread as well as larger areas of afforestation and peatland restoration.
Simultaneously, there is an immediate necessity to produce our food in the most efficient and environmentally friendly way possible, but also to be mindful that we restore and enhance important habitats for our precious and unique biota.
How can we help mainstream agriculture adapt to incorporate novel crops with potential to contribute to Scotland’s emission targets? We must also identify opportunities for nature-based food solutions as they could be pivotal in mitigating and adapting to climate change whilst restoring nature.
To deliver a sustainable food system requires ambition to think beyond domestic agriculture, more widely than from farm to fork, while contributing to the economy, people’s livelihoods and the health of the nation.
