Computing Science at the University of Aberdeen is a thriving centre of teaching and research. We are part of an internationally respected academic community with a long tradition for innovation and excellence.

All of our degree programmes benefit from the expertise and scholarship within the Department, and consequently Aberdeen's Computing graduates enjoy an excellent reputation with employers.

Our single honours undergraduate degree programmes are accredited by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, giving full exemption from professional examinations. When a new degree is introduced accreditation is sought at the first opportunity.

Industrial Placement

All of our degrees can include a year's placement in industry, local government, etc. undertaken in either the fourth or fifth year. Successful completion leads to the award of an MSci. Find out more.

Study Abroad

We encourage students to take part in ERASMUS and International Exchange Programme. You may spend up to one year of your degree studying at these institutions. Please contact Dr. Bruce Scharlau for further information.

"I had offers to study at other Scottish Universities but was attracted to Aberdeen by its reputation as an internationally connected University with options to study abroad.  I applied to Study Abroad in the USA and was successful with my application to study my second year in the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign.  The opportunity that Aberdeen gave me to study at the 5th best Computer Science School in the USA was significant in my development.  Meeting other people with unbelievable passion for their subjects and their outstanding work ethic was very inspiring.  It also gave me a chance to experience another culture, to develop new friends for life and the freedom to travel and see America. There have definitely been incredible opportunities for me during my time studying at Aberdeen University, and they are available to everyone if they want to grab them.  I would not change a thing and have no regrets about my decision to study at Aberdeen University."
