Dr Tomilola Akanle Eni-ibukun (Associate Director)

Dr Eni-ibukun's primary research interests are climate change, low-carbon development and sustainable energy, focusing on the policies, laws and mechanisms being used globally to address these issues. Her current research is on the implementation of the Paris Agreement, including the new Article 6 market mechanism. However, she engages with a wide range of environmental law issues, including sustainable chemicals management, environmental justice, and environmental implementation and enforcement. For the last 15 years, she has been reporting from and analysing UN negotiations on sustainable development and climate change, as a Team Leader with the International Institute for Sustainable Development's Earth Negotiations Bulletin (ENB). She has attended 40+ UN conferences and co-authored more than 130 reports on energy, climate change, chemicals management and other environmental issues.

Dr Mitchell Lennan (Associate Director)

Dr Lennan is the AUCEL Secretary. He joined AUCEL in December 2022 and is a Lecturer in Environmental Law at Aberdeen Law School. Mitchell's research interests lie at the intersection of International Law of the Sea, Climate, Biodiversity, and Human Rights Law. He is particularly interested in the international regulation of fisheries and other marine resources (living and non-living) in the face of climate change. His recently completed PhD focused on the global legal issues of fish stocks shifting location due to climate change. He works closely with AUCEL members and UKRI GCRF One Ocean Hub researchers on these and other issues.

Dr Thomas Muinzer

Dr Muinzer joined the University of Aberdeen in 2020 as Senior Lecturer in Energy Transition Law. His teaching and research tends to focus on climate and energy decarbonisation law and policy. He has subsidiary and intersecting interests in the sphere of constitutional law, human rights protections, and the safe and responsible governance of energy and the environment. He wrote the first monograph on the world's first example of national framework climate legislation, Climate and Energy Governance for the UK Low Carbon Transition: The Climate Change Act 2008 (Palgrave: UK, 2018). He is also Contributing Editor to the first book-length study of Climate Change Acts around the world: National Climate Change Acts: The Emergence, Form and Nature of National Framework Climate Legislation (Hart, forthcoming).

Prof Anne-Michelle Slater

Anne-Michelle Slater is a specialist in spatial planning law: marine and terrestrial. Originally from practice, she teaches and publishes on all aspects of regulation and implementation, but with a recent focus on offshore renewable energy systems. She has advised Scottish Government and the Irish Marine Institute on marine spatial planning and was a member of the Royal Town PIanning Institute's Marine Spatial Planning Task Group and on Scottish Government's Sustainable Seas Task Force. Interdisciplinary projects include developing a process to implement marine renewable energy funded by the Natural Environment Research Council and comparing land and sea planning policies in Norway and Scotland funded by the Norwegian research council.

Associate Professor Jose Guillermo Garcia Sanchez

Guillermo J. Garcia-Sanchez is an Associate Professor at Texas A&M University School of Law. His academic interest and teaching focuses on international energy governance, dispute resolution, and U.S-Mexico relations. His research has been published in the Harvard Journal of International Law, the Tulane Law Review, the Seton Hall Law Review, and the Houston Journal of International Law, among others. Prior to entering academia, he was an associate in Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle, LLP international arbitration team and served as a legal advisor in Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prof. Garcia-Sanchez holds an S.J.D. and an LL.M. from Harvard Law School, an LL.M. in International Law from the Fletcher School of Law Diplomacy, and Bachelors of Arts in Law and International Relations from ITAM University in Mexico
