On 3 December 2025, Dr Alisdair MacPherson (representing the Law Society of Scotland) and Prof Burcu Yüksel Ripley gave evidence to the Scottish Parliament’s Economy and Fair Work Committee on the Digital Assets (Scotland) Bill. The Bill aims to clarify the status of ‘digital assets’ as a type of property in Scots law and to confirm rules for acquisition of ownership.
As part of Stage 1 scrutiny of the Bill, the evidence session discussed the Bill’s general principles, points that would benefit from further consideration, and other areas of law to be reformed in future phases of law reform work in Scotland.
Full details and the video of the session can be found at the Scottish Parliament website: Economy and Fair Work Committee | Scottish Parliament TV.
