AUCEL Appoints Dr Eddy Wifa and Dr Mitchell Lennan as New Co-Directors

We are pleased to announce that Dr Eddy Wifa and Dr Mitchell Lennan have both been appointed as Co-Directors of the Aberdeen University Centre for Energy Law (AUCEL). Eddy and Mitchell extend their gratitude to past Director Dr Daria Shapovalova and to all Centre members for their support throughout the appointment process.

Dr. Eddy Wifa is a Senior Lecturer (Energy Law) at the School of Law, University of Aberdeen. He joined the School of Law in 2020 following the completion of his PhD in Marine Renewable Energy Health and Safety Risk Governance. Since then, he has contributed to teaching and research on a range of topics including Petroleum Resource Governance, Decommissioning, and Low Carbon Energy Transition (Renewable Energy Law). He has equally consulted and advised on related energy law issues. He is a member of the Society of Legal Scholars and co-founder and past director of both the Global South Research Network and the African Natural Resources and Energy Law Network (ANRELN).

Dr Mitchell Lennan joined the University of Aberdeen School of Law as a Lecturer in 2022. His teaching and research focus on Public International Law, with specialisms in the Law of the Sea and International Environmental Law. His work examines how global environmental change affects the regulation of the marine environment. Mitchell contributes to the School’s growing profile in marine and environmental law and collaborates across disciplines on research addressing the impacts of climate change on the ocean. He regularly represents the University at United Nations climate meetings and supports the Centre’s engagement with international law and policy processes.

Both Co-Directors bring in a wealth of knowledge and expertise in energy and environmental law. Considering that AUCEL is widely recognised for its excellent, diverse, and impactful research in the fields of energy and environmental law. Both Eddy and Mitchell look forward to working closely with Centre members, associates, and external partners to continue advancing the Centre’s important work.
