The UK Parliament’s Treasury Committee this week took a closer look at the fast-expanding cryptocurrency sector, hearing evidence from Professor Burcu Yüksel Ripley, Professor of Law at the University of Aberdeen alongside industry experts. The Committee convened a dedicated one-off session on 18th November to consider the potential risks and rewards of the UK embracing cryptoassets at a time when such assets are becoming increasingly embedded in globally.
The purpose of the session was to explore what steps the UK Government and regulators could take to enable a strong cryptoasset ecosystem which maximises opportunities for economic growth while ensuring robust protections for the UK’s financial system. The session also considered whether embracing cryptoassets would be a risk to financial stability and consumers, and further discussed societal issues relating to cryptoassets including their impact on financial inclusion and the environment.
Full details and the recording of the session can be found at the UK Parliament website: 18 November 2025 – Cryptocurrency – Oral Evidence Session (https://committees.parliament.uk/event/25596/formal-meeting-oral-evidence-session/).
