AUCEL memebrs contributed to the new book on Offshore Energy Law coming out with Hart Publishing this month. Offshore environments have vast resources to provide energy solutions for humankind. While they have been explored and extracted for more than a century when it comes to hydrocarbons, there is rapidly growing offshore renewable industry. Offshore spaces now amalgamate mature and emerging energy industries, making this the pertinent time to identify synergies as well as regulatory lessons for the future. This book offers an comparative and analytical dimension to key legal challenges and opportunities shared by a variety of offshore developments.
It is within this background that a book such as this is both relevant and timely. Key themes like offshore energy licensing, safety and ecological governance and the use of marine/maritime spatial planning provide arenas for both contractual and regulatory lessons. Also, with a growing focus on the societal implication of the energy transition, attention will be given to key topics linked to society and non-industry stakeholders, such as energy justice.
AUCEL members across all career stages contributed to this book, with Dr Eddy Wifa being one of the editors. Dr Daria Shapovalova and Dr Eddy Wifa co-authored a chapter on environmental regulation (with Dr pedi Obani). Nnennaya J Nwali co-authored a chapter on resource curse (with Solomon N Obulor and Joy A Debski), while Dr Eddy Wifa and Prof John Paterson co-authored a chapter on health and safety.
Congratulations to Dr Wifa and all the contributors on this important publication!
