Early Career Academic Programme 2024, Medicine, Medical Sciences & Nutrition
The University of Aberdeen, NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and NHS Grampian and Highland are excited to recruit to the Early Career Clinical Academic Programme (ECAP). This opportunity is part of the Aberdeen Clinical Academic Training (ACAT) programmes and is intended for entrants to core training programmes (CT1-2 or IMT) or run-through ST training in any discipline with NHS Grampian or NHS Highland starting in 2024.
Research Fellow, Medicine, Medical Sciences & Nutrition
We seek a Research Fellow to work on mechanisms of human chromosome stability in the laboratory of Professor Anne Donaldson & Dr Shin-ichiro Hiraga. The successful candidate will join a well-funded, dynamic research team within an interactive group of laboratories sharing an interest in chromosome biology.

Senior Research Fellow, Engineering
This project has been funded by a leading company in flow control products for oil and gas mid- / down-stream operations and the Royal Academy of Engineering. The overall goal is to develop a new technology for attaining a zero-spill to the environment during tanker breakout in a typical mid- or downstream operation involving low-viscosity refined petroleum products. The project will involve design and optimisation of analytical, numerical, computational and experimental processes for achieving the zero-spill technology.
Institute Administration Coordinator, Medicine, Medical Sciences & Nutrition
This post offers an exciting opportunity to join our team of administrative staff who support the General Practice and Community Medical Education (GPCME) section. The administrative co-ordinator works collaboratively with the whole team, interacts with and supports GP practices who provide clinical placements. You will also interact with our medical students and coordinate the information and materials, so they get the most out of their learning opportunities. General Practice teaching is a key speciality in the undergraduate medical curriculum, throughout all 5 years of the MBChB programme. During the first 3 years of the programme, students undertake the teaching in local GP practices. In Years 4 and 5, they undertake longer blocks and are placed in GP practices around Scotland. This post relates principally to the delivery of Year 5 of the curriculum although you also have opportunity to become involved in wider aspects of the MBChB programme. The post will be based in the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition in the Polwarth Building (Medical School Building) on the Foresterhill Site.

Obesity and type 2 diabetes are among the global health care challenges of the 21st century. The University of Aberdeen has a 100-year history of ground-breaking science in nutrition and health, principally led by researchers within the Rowett Institute (RI). The primary cause of obesity is the consumption of more food than the body requires, calories that are then stored as fat. An understanding of the neurobiological mechanisms regulating physical activity, energy expenditure and food intake is essential to successful prevention and treatment of obesity and associated conditions. The brain represents the master coordinator of voluntary physical activity and appetite, employing a number of interwoven neurological circuits to continually appraise and respond to changes in energy balance.
Lecturer in Energy Transition, Engineering
The School of Engineering at the University of Aberdeen is a research-intensive interdisciplinary academic unit engaged in fundamental and applied research and offering UG and PGT degree programmes across five Engineering disciplines: Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Electronic, Mechanical, and Petroleum. The School recognises that electrical power systems will play a pivotal role in the energy transition, driven by governmental goals towards phasing out of fossil fuels, sustainability and electrification across industries. The national use of electrical energy is projected to increase threefold, and the Scottish Government awarded 27GW of new offshore wind projects in the 2022 Scotwind round. All aspects of electrical power networks are undergoing fundamental change, supported by rapid advances in power electronics, and requiring expert support by skilled researchers and engineers.
