We are pleased to welcome the 2025 intake of students to MB5522, an intensive, hands-on course taking students through the mysteries of Unix and high-performance computing, quality control on Illumina sequencing reads, genome assembly and finally genome annotation. Students analyse unknown samples of cultured organisms derived from soil around the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and use bioinformatic analysis to examine the soil microbiome as a reservoir for anti-microbial resistance.
