Dragon Boat Festival Kite Design Competition

Calling all young artists in Aberdeen City and Shire!

As part of this year’s celebration of the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, we’re inviting pupils from P4 to S2 to take part in a kite design competition. Entry is open to all pupils in Aberdeen City and Shire – not just those currently learning Mandarin. Designs can be created during class time, extracurricular clubs or at home, but they should be the pupil’s own work.

Entries can explore any aspect of the Dragon Boat Festival – whether it’s the thrilling dragon boat races, legendary dragons, or the rich cultural traditions behind the event.

There will be prizes for each year group, with the top winning design in each group also being professionally made into a kite for the winner to keep. All entries will be proudly displayed at the Dragon Boat Festival event at Cults Academy, where the winners will also be announced.

• Designs should be on the kite template from the Confucius Institute (email confucius@abadn.ac.uk for this to be supplied) • Designs should be created by hand, using traditional art materials such as pencils, pens, paint, or collage, and ideally in bright, bold colours for best effect.• Entrants should include their name, school, and year group clearly on the back of their design.

Entries should be handed in to the Confucius Institute, 17 High Street, AB24 3EE, or if a Mandarin teacher regularly visits your school, they can collect them.

Deadline for entries: Wednesday 27th May

Dragon Boat Festival Market Cults Academy 12noon-4pm, Saturday 20 June. Market stalls, food vendors, free creative activities and cultural performances. Free entry and open to all.

If you require further information, please contact the Confucius Institute (confucius@abdn.ac.uk).
