Through its New Voices project RIISS is actively supporting the research agendas of early career researchers. Led by Dr Sarah Sharp , the New Voices programme involves an annual seminar series held in the first half semester where work is presented to an interdisciplinary audience. It further supports a visiting fellowship award scheme which enables ECRs to visit Aberdeen to consult the archives, develop a research proposal, or to finish a bespoke piece of work in a conducive environment. It also hosts a biannual writing retreat (by way of competitive application) and provides an outlet for publication through the Institute's peer reviewed open access title, the Journal of Irish and Scottish Studies . In this way RIISS invests in the future of the field by providing support for new and emerging researchers as they navigate a rapidly changing academic sphere.
