Through its New Voices project RIISS is actively supporting the research agendas of early career researchers. Led by Dr Sarah Sharp, the New Voices programme involves an annual seminar series held in the first half semester where work is presented to an interdisciplinary audience. It further supports a visiting fellowship award scheme which enables ECRs to visit Aberdeen to consult the archives, develop a research proposal, or to finish a bespoke piece of work in a conducive environment. It also hosts a biannual writing retreat (by way of competitive application) and provides an outlet for publication through the Institute's peer reviewed open access title, the Journal of Irish and Scottish Studies. In this way RIISS invests in the future of the field by providing support for new and emerging researchers as they navigate a rapidly changing academic sphere.
