The Careers and Employability Service at AFG College with the University of Aberdeen supports students by providing consultation and advice needed for effective career planning, opportunities for skills development and networking and connecting with sector representatives and different employers. 

What do we offer?

ILM Level 2 Award

The University of Aberdeen has created a Level 2 Award in Leadership and Team Skills, accredited by the ILM. This course is a professional development opportunity designed for registered undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Aberdeen and AFG College with the University of Aberdeen.  The Award’s content has been created to align with our students’ experiences and supports their motivation in having a range of evidence beyond their University degree programme to affirm their experiences to future employers. There are two units in the award, each takes around 10 hours to complete of self study on MyAberdeen.

Career Mentoring Programme

Career MentoringAs an undergraduate student (level 2 and above) or a postgraduate student at AFG College with the University of Aberdeen, you can register as a mentee in this programme and benefit from regular sessions with an experienced professional to gain one-to-one employability advice, support and guidance in a specific profession and/or sector.

MySkills

MySkills is a new tool for available online through CareerConnect, our careers IT platform.  MySkills allows you to plan, develop, track and share your skills development and achievements. Your reflections will be useful to develop your self-awareness and in making applications to a range of future opportunities.

Applying for work experience and graduate jobs

We support students at every step of the application process, from finding internships or graduate jobsnetworking on LinkedIn, writing your CV and covering letter to interview support.

Internships and opportunities

Students are encouraged to look for opportunities for work experience and internships. Although it is not an academic requirement, it is a great opportunity to develop skills and gain a better understanding of the work environment. We have a mini career course on finding internships whch you may find useful.

The Careers and Employability Service announces different opportunities throughout the academic year to students interested in applying for on-campus or off-campus placements.
