Biography

I joined the School of Law in February 2022 as a lecturer in energy and environmental law. My primary research interests are climate change, low-carbon development and sustainable energy, focusing on the policies, laws and mechanisms being used globally to address these issues. However, I engage with a wide range of environmental law issues, including sustainable chemicals management, environmental justice, and environmental implementation and enforcement.

My current research is scrutinizing countries' compliance with environmental protection rules and laws, particularly international environmental laws. My doctoral thesis focused on the Kyoto Protocol's Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and considered environmental integrity and justice issues around the mechanism. As a follow up, I am also analysing the Paris Agreement's new market mechanism and any environmental integrity and distributive justice issues that could arise from the mechanism.

For the last 15 years, I have been reporting from and analysing UN negotiations on sustainable development and climate change, as a Team Leader with the International Institute for Sustainable Development's Earth Negotiations Bulletin (ENB). I have attended 40+ UN conferences and co-authored more than 130 reports on energy, climate change, chemicals management and other environmental issues.

I have also worked as a freelance environmental communicator and researcher, consulting for organizations such as the UNFCCC Secretariat. I have previously lectured or guest lectured at the University of St. Andrews, the University of Dundee and the University of Lagos.

I obtained my Ph.D. in law from the University of Dundee in 2011. I also hold an LL.B. (Hons) from the University of Lagos in Nigeria and an LL.M. in international law from University College London. I have published my PhD thesis as a monograph.
