Biography

Péter Cserne joined the University of Aberdeen as a reader in law in June 2020. He was promoted to Personal Chair with effect from August 2022.

He is the Law School's Director of Postgraduate Research. 

A lawyer and economist by training, he has published widely on jurisprudence, comparative law, contract law and the history of legal and political thought.

Péter earned his Ph.D. at the University of Hamburg, Germany. He has held visiting positions at Columbia, Oxford, Toronto, and Genoa Universities, the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Private Law. In 2022 he was a fellow at the Hamburg Institute for Advanced Study. He is an Extramural Fellow of Tilburg Law and Economics Center (TILEC) and the founder and convener of MetaLawEcon, an international academic network for research on the foundations of Law & Economics.  

Before joining Aberdeen, Péter taught at Northumbria and Hull Universities in England, Tilburg University in the Netherlands, and Pázmány Péter Catholic University in Hungary.
