Biography
Professor Florian Becker studied law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität, Bonn from 1990 to 1994. He passed the First State Examination in 1995 at the Court of Appeal in Cologne. After that he worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Cologne (with Professor Dr Joachim Burmeister), where he was awarded the title of "Dr. jur" in 1997 for his thesis about "Die Vernetzung der Landesbanken. Eine Untersuchung ueber verfassungsrechtliche Bedingungen und Grenzen der Kapitalisierung und partiellen Uebernahme von Landesbanken/Girozentralen sowie der Einrichtung laenderuebergreifender Institute" (The German Laender Banks. An investigation into the constitutional limitations of reciprocal purchases of Laender banks/giro centres and the establishment of transregional institutions). He studied for an LL.M. at the University of Cambridge, where he was awarded the "Clive Parry Prize (Overseas) for International Law" (1997).
After a legal clerkship from 1997 to 1999, Florian Becker passed the Second State Examination at the Landesjustizpruefungsamt North Rhine Westphalia. In 2000 he was admitted to the bar and also became an examiner in the First Law Exam at the Court of Appeal in Cologne. From 2000 to 2004, Florian Becker was a Senior Research Fellow at the Max-Planck-Project Group "Law of the Common Goods" (Bonn), which on the 1st September 2003 was transformed into the "Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods".
On January 9th 2004, he was awarded the venia legendi for "Staats- und Verwaltungsrecht, einschließlich Rechtsvergleichung und Europarecht" (Constitutional Law, Administrative Law including Comparative Law and European Law) by the Rechts- und Staatswissenschaftlichen Fakultät (Law Faculty) of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms Universität, Bonn. In spring 2004 he held a Visiting Professorship at the Andrássy University, Budapest. Florian Becker joined the Law School as a Professor in November 2004. - Publications
