Part of the School of Law LLM Development and Engagement Programme
Whether you are beginning to write your dissertation or preparing your Professional Skills report, this interactive three-hour workshop will focus on turning your research and ideas into clear, critical and persuasive legal writing.
Through short practical sessions, exercises and dedicated writing time, we will explore how to move beyond description to critical analysis, synthesise and analyse primary and secondary literature, sustain an argument across a substantial piece of work, construct effective paragraphs and edit your writing for clarity and coherence. You will have opportunities to apply the techniques directly to your own work and ask questions.
The workshop will be delivered in collaboration with the Language Centre, combining guidance on advanced legal research and writing with practical support on communicating complex ideas clearly and effectively. You will have opportunities to apply the techniques directly to your own work and ask questions.
The workshop is open to all current LLM students completing either the dissertation or Professional Skills route. Please bring your laptop and any notes or draft material you have available so that you can put the lessons into practice.
Refreshments will be served during the Workshop.
