The NHS Scotland's outdoor spaces economic value quantified for the first time.
A University of Aberdeen study commissioned by Public Health Scotland and SEFARI Gateway has for the first time quantified the economic value of NHS Scotland's outdoor spaces, finding that roughly 91 million hours of exposure to nature generate health benefits worth around £82 million per year, equivalent to what it would cost the NHS to deliver those same benefits through healthcare services.
Recently, our work was selected to be presented at the UK Public Health Science Conference in Newcastle. We have also been invited to present at the 3rd Scottish Behavioural Science Conference in Stirling. This follows from successful knowledge exchange events with individual NHS boards, the NHS Scotland Greenspace and Biodiversity Group and a webinar on Valuing, Protecting and Managing the NHS Scotland Outdoor Estate.
