Scottish Researchers' Night brings together academics, school pupils and the public across Scotland and beyond to celebrate and showcase the best research.
This year's Scottish Researchers' Night, 'EXPLORATHON', will take place on Saturday 30 September 2023 and is co-ordinated by the University of Aberdeen in partnership with St Andrews, Glasgow and Strathclyde universities, staging simultaneous in-person and online events across Scotland.

The organisers are currently seeking expressions of interest from researchers to take part or run an event as part of Explorathon. Staff and postgraduate researchers in all disciplines are welcome to participate. Do you have exciting and interesting research you want to communicate with the public about?
We are looking for hands-on, interactive demonstrations in our Hall of Mayhem which takes place on Saturday 30 September at the Aberdeen Music Hall.
- Researcher-led activities

PERU are interested in hearing from researchers with their own ideas of an event to hold during Explorathon.
In particular, we are keen to hear ideas which link to the university's interdisciplinary challenges.
Please complete the form and indicate your idea. If you are selected you will be provided with a room and marketing support for the event.
- HERStory Makers

HERStory Makers challenges female researchers across Scotland and Europe to inspire the next generation by telling their story in research.
Create a short video, explaining your research or your career to date and the audience votes for their favourite. The winning entries from Scotland will then go forward to the European final.
Training will be available.
- Scottish Research Showcase

Engage with Twitter users all over Scotland and beyond about your research in the Scottish Research Showcase. This showcase of research going on in Scotland allows you to collaborate with researchers from different institutions:
- Create a two-minute video, talk, animation about your research or career and then take 15-minutes to answer questions from viewers.
- Write an informative Twitter thread
- Take part in a livestreamed discussions
Participants will receive training to create their video and will be supported to post their video.

- Researchers in Schools

Researchers have the opportunity to engage school audiences with their research through the Researchers in Schools activities. Activity in this area can be delivered from August 2022 until February 2024.
Develop your own idea on your research topic, or link in to existing programmes such as STEM Ambassadors and Skype a Scientist.
