Inclusion is an underpinning theme within the University of Aberdeen's 2040 Strategic Plan. At the Institute of Dentistry, the Lead for Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI), forms part of the Institute's Leadership team. EDI is active at both Institute and School level. To find out more about EDI at the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition (SMMSN), of which the Institute of Dentistry is one of five institutes, please visit: https://www.abdn.ac.uk/smmsn/equality-diversity-inclusion/index.php
Athena SWAN is an important part of EDI and the Institute of Dentistry achieved its Bronze Award in 2019. The Athena SWAN Charter is a frameword based on ten key principles which is used across the globe to support and transform gender equality within higher education (HE) and research. By being part of Athena SWAN, institutions are committing to a progressive charter, adopting these principles within their policies, practices, action plans and culture. The University of Aberdeen’s commitment to advancing gender equality has been underlined with confirmation that every individual School and Institute now holds an Athena SWAN Bronze Award.
