Professor Gearoid Millar will be presenting at the Centre for Peace and Conflict Research at University College, Dublin on October 22nd. His presentation, entitled, ‘Peace Studies and Polycrisis: Returning to fundamentals or expanding to new fields?’ will discuss possible future avenues for the field of Peace Studies. You can attend the event at 2pm on Wednesday October 22nd in Quinn Room 007, UCD.
An excerpt from the abstract for the presentation is as follows:
Peace and Conflict Studies is often framed as a normative field with the twin aims of understanding conflict and violence in order to actively work towards peace. In this tradition, while understandings of the challenges to peace have constantly evolved over the period in which the field has developed, so too have the paradigms, approaches, and practices within the field. … This presentation will ask, in a time of escalating crises, should the field be returning to its fundamental theories and practices, or should we be reaching further beyond our traditional approaches to tackle complex emerging challenges?
