The MSc Global Business Communication aims to develop your confidence to evaluate, analyse, and solve complex communication challenges in your profession.

Our comprehensive master’s degree combines specialised areas in communication and linguistics with topics in business management and marketing to broaden your interdisciplinary understanding of global communication. We link theoretical approaches to communication with applied practice through interactive lectures and seminars, enabling you to engage with cutting-edge research and innovative assessments to build your knowledge in one of the following industries: business, healthcare, media or legal communication. 

Our innovative topics and experts offer the tools required to analyse institutional values and understand core issues and practices in communication within your chosen industry. You also build skills in negotiation, intercultural communication, management, evaluation and analysis techniques, public speaking, personal relations, and rapport management. 

The programme draws on knowledge from industry experts and award-winning academics across disciplines, providing a holistic approach to language and communication analysis. Our academics also specialise in areas including, management business communication theory, institutional discourse, and intercultural communication, allowing you to examine key issues and practices of communication in core industries. 

Graduates have progressed onto roles in communication, marketing, consultancy in energy and communication, media, communication leadership, business, education, and further PhD research. You also develop transferable skills from research, problem-solving and presentation skills to intercultural communication and enhanced cultural knowledge, offering opportunities to work across different industries and sectors.

This course, which is prescribed for all taught postgraduate students, is studied entirely online, takes approximately 5-6 hours to complete and can be taken in one sitting, or spread across a number of weeks.

The Leadership Challenge (QB5514)

This course provides an opportunity to explore and develop an understanding of your own leadership behaviour. Through seminars, group activities and discussions we investigate how personality, past experience, current situations and culture shape the way each of us behave in a leadership role. Using this information as a starting point we then explore how different leadership theories and approaches can be used as a frameworks for developing a deeper understanding of leadership behaviour. You will also have an opportunity to assist you in the development of your own approach to leadership.

Entry Requirements

All candidates are reviewed on a case-by-case basis considering their qualifications and experience. The application process may include an interview with the Postgraduate Programme Director. The entry criteria and sign-off for an offer for study agreed by the relevant School and the University of Aberdeen Admissions Selection Team. The normal minimum expectation is that the students will have the equivalent of a UK 2nd Class Honours Degree and a level of English Proficiency.

English Language Requirements

To study for a Postgraduate Taught degree at the University of Aberdeen it is essential that you can speak, understand, read, and write English fluently. The minimum requirements for this degree are as follows: 

  • IELTS Academic: OVERALL - 6.5 with: Listening - 5.5; Reading - 5.5; Speaking - 5.5; Writing - 6.0
  • TOEFL iBT: OVERALL - 90 with: Listening - 17; Reading - 18; Speaking - 20; Writing - 21
  • PTE Academic: OVERALL - 62 with: Listening - 51; Reading - 51; Speaking - 51; Writing - 54
  • Cambridge English Advanced & Proficiency: OVERALL - 176 with: Listening - 162; Reading - 162; Speaking - 162; Writing - 169

Fees

  • The tuition fee is 105,000 QR per programme.
  • Tuition fees are fixed at the point of entry so there is no annual increase for returning students.

Careers

The MSc Global Business Communication connects students with industry in a variety of ways. Students benefit from Industry weeks with the Business School where they will work on specific industry based tasks, building your networking and teamwork skills. Students also gain exposure to industry through a series of guest speaker talks during the year, featuring prominent figures from a range of professional contexts in Aberdeen and internationally. Students go on to undertake careers in top level communication jobs in a range of industries most notably, alumni have since acquired the roles of: Head of Product for a large communications consultancy and Head of Communications at a leading national hospital. Graduates also go on to manage key accounts in marketing consultancy firms, work in HR, PR and external relations.
