The AFG College celebrates the end of the first academic year
Staff and students celebrated the end of a successful first academic year at the AFG College – University of Aberdeen Social Event on Sunday 6 May 2018.
To mark the occasion awards were presented to students who had made a significant contribution to the on-campus student experience. Recognition awards were also given to AFG College staff, in both academic and administrative roles for their positive contribution to the overall College experience for both staff and students.
The event also included an art exhibition where the work of staff and students, was on display. The quality of the students’ work was impressive and the range of photography, painting and drawing showed that many of the AFG – University of Aberdeen students specialising in management and finance students have other talents outside the world of business.
Brian Buckley, Principal of AFG College said:
"This social event was the opportunity to reward everyone, both students and staff alike, for making the first year of the partnership between the University of Aberdeen and AFG College a successful and enjoyable experience. I would like to thank everyone involved: first the students, for working so hard and achieving excellent results overall, second the administrative staff for their support and expertise in helping to make this first year a smooth and effective operation, and third the lecturers both AFG staff and visiting University of Aberdeen faculty whose knowledge and expertise has contributed to the students learning experience in so many ways."
Dr Sheikha Aisha bint Faleh Al Thani, Chairperson and Founder of AFG said:
"As the first academic year draws to a close, we are already preparing for the start of the new semester in August, where we look forward to welcoming new students for our bachelors’ programmes and new University of Aberdeen MBA and MSc in International Business Management. These two new masters’ degrees will complement our current undergraduate management degrees, as well as meeting the growing demand for high quality postgraduate education in Qatar. We are working collaboratively with the Ministry of Higher Education and hope to launch these new programmes in September."
Professor Bryan MacGregor, Executive Dean of the University of Aberdeen Business School said: "It is a great pleasure to be here at the campus in Qatar. I would like to congratulate Dr Sheikha Aisha for her vision and determination in delivering this important project. Congratulations, too, to all staff for their hard work and to all students for their diligence and efforts.’

This partnership continues to build on the excellent relationship that Qatar and the UK already enjoy. We are very proud of the hard work and efforts of everyone involved over the course of the inaugural year.’
