Our Research Vision

We have an international reputation for excellence in fundamental, theory-driven research within three key themes (perception, cognition and social cognition) and a single cross-cutting theme (applied psychology). Our collaborative and collegial research environment is valued as an integral part of our research success. Strong support networks within the school create a cohesive, inclusive identity as a place where excellent research is produced, and all staff are recognised and supported for their diverse roles in facilitating that excellence. We have strong collaborative links across academic disciplines, nationally and internationally, and beyond academia.

Our vision is to build on our core capabilities, infrastructure, and resources to achieve sustainable growth in the scope and impact of our research. Building on our experience we aim to strengthen our research capacity, foster new collaborations, and enhance our expertise to access larger and more varied opportunities. We also aim to provide the specialised training and mentoring needs, networking opportunities and peer support that is especially critical for the long-term success of our early-career researchers.

Strategic Goals:

To strengthen our research environment to achieve and maintain sustainable levels of growth

  • Enhance research management and technical support in the school.
  • Nurture a thriving, supportive and inclusive research culture.
  • Manage workloads to protect our research-focused time.
  • Support and encourage funding bids.

To maximise the reputational and societal benefits of our research

  • Strengthen and expand connections by engaging with interdisciplinary challenges, international exchange and community outreach.
  • Support and strengthen impact and engagement development.
  • Champion open science practices to maximise the transparency and accessibility of our research.
