Biography
I am Dr Monika Gostic, Teaching Fellow in the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition at the University of Aberdeen. My academic expertise spans genetics, molecular biology, microbiology, nutrition, and lifestyle medicine, with a strong focus on translational research and enterprise.
I hold a PhD in Genetics, MSc in Biology, and BSc in Microbiology, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship developing high-throughput methods for modelling gut cancer. My research interests include gut health, women’s health, chronic disease prevention, and the role of the microbiome in inflammation and cancer.
At Aberdeen, I am passionate about student development, embedding enterprise skills into the curriculum, and creating placement opportunities that link academic research with innovation and commercialisation. I coordinate several UG and PGT courses, from Molecular Genetics to the Advanced Bio-Business and the Commercialisation of Bioscience Research module, equipping students with the tools to translate laboratory discoveries into real-world applications.
Alongside teaching, I direct Dr Monika Gostic Nutrition Ltd., an award-winning consultancy specialising in functional nutrition and lifestyle medicine for chronic conditions.
My academic interests are in women’s health, cancer nutrition, microbiome science, gut–brain axis research, and translational bio-business innovation.
