Biography

Hello! My name is Apoorva (Ria) Amirapu, I am currently a PhD student researching safety and decision-making within the Nuclear industry. My doctoral research examines Operational Decision-Making (ODM) within the UK nuclear industry in specific.  I am supervised by Dr Amy Irwin, Dr Eva Rubinova, Prof. Rhona Flin, Dr Ruby Roberts and our external collaborator, Office for Nuclear Regulation.

My background in psychology includes volunteering in the mental health sector during my undergraduate studies with a special interest in neurodivergence and children's mental health. Following my degree, I worked as an Assistant Psychologist with NHS Grampian. I have extensive experience across clinical psychology, human factors, and qualitative research. Promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion is central to my work.
