FAQ

Clearing is your opportunity to find a university place after exam results are released. If you don’t yet have an offer, didn’t get the grades you expected, or have changed your mind about what or where you want to study, Clearing gives you a chance to explore courses with available places and secure a spot that’s right for you.

You can apply through Clearing if:

• You don’t hold any offer on UCAS
• You didn’t meet the conditions of your offer
• You applied after the 30 June deadline
• You changed your mind about where or what to study. This includes students who achieved better grades than expected in their exams.

Once you have your results, contact us to discuss your options.

Before you contact us, have ready:

• Your UCAS Applicant ID (starts with a “1”)
• Your exam results 

What happens next:

We’ll ask a few quick questions to check your eligibility. If we're in a position to offer you a place, we will let you know within a minute and back this up immediately with an email which will explain exactly what you need to do to accept the offer to study at the University of Aberdeen.

Please note, we need to speak to the applicant directly unless we have agreed consent from them to talk to a parent, carer or guardian.

Does Aberdeen accept provisional results for Clearing? 

No. We can only accept official, verified results. 

Accepted results include:

• Results submitted directly to UCAS by exam boards
• Official certificates issued by exam boards 

We cannot accept:

• Provisional or unconfirmed grades from schools or colleges 

Key dates:

• Scottish Highers: 4 August 2026
• A Levels: 13 August 2026
• Some qualifications (e.g. IB) may be released earlier 

Don’t worry - you may still have options and we are here to help. Remember, your grades are only one part of your application. After the release of the verified results we will be reviewing again in detail the applications of those who do not meet our offer conditions. 

Many students are still offered places through Clearing. Contact us as soon as your confirmed results are available.

If you’re waiting to hear back from us with a decision, we’ll update UCAS once we receive your results and UCAS will notify you of your outcome. 

Yes, but you must first apply through UCAS.

Steps:

• Register and submit an application on UCAS.
• Then contact us to discuss available courses in Clearing

The University of Aberdeen aims to offer places to as many well-qualified applicants as possible, and many of our programmes are available through Clearing.

You can apply through Clearing for most subjects, but please note that Medicine and Dentistry are not available.

Once your place is confirmed:

• You’ll receive your Student ID number
• You’ll receive instructions for applying for accommodation
• You’ll receive a call from an academic member of staff to discuss any questions you have about your programme.

This information is usually sent within 48 hours. 

Tuition fees and funding options vary depending on your fee status.

Before applying, you should:

• Check your fee status (for example: Home (Scotland), Rest of UK, or International)
• Explore the scholarships, bursaries, and funding support available to you 

Available support includes:

Students from Scotland (Home fees)

Students classified as Home fees status can apply for a range of scholarships and funding opportunities listed in our funding database.

We also offer a year’s free accommodation to new undergraduate students from SIMD20 (Quintile 1) home postcodes. 

Students from the Rest of the UK and Ireland

The RUK & Ireland Entrance Scholarship provides eligible students from England, Northern Ireland, Wales, the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man with:

• a £2,000 discount towards University accommodation  
• £50 weekly catering card allowance for all eligible students  

International Students 

The Aberdeen Global Scholarship (Undergraduate) provides eligible international students with a £6,000 tuition fee discount for each year of their degree programme.

The University of Aberdeen guarantees an offer of accommodation* in University-owned halls or with preferred partners to all single, new full-time students for the full academic year, provided your application is submitted by 28 August 2026. 

We offer a range of student accommodation options near campus.

Locations include:

• King’s College Campus (Old Aberdeen)
• Hillhead Student Village
• Aberdeen city centre

If you hold an offer through Clearing, you can join us at our Undergraduate Open Day on Tuesday 25 August. While this event is primarily tailored for students planning to start in September 2027, you are absolutely welcome to join us and get a feel for campus life!
