Read more here about how you might consider this when planning your birth.
You may have strong beliefs about how you want to give birth. These views may reflect beliefs that are important to you, your community/social network or your family. It is important that your midwife or doctor respects and considers these when planning your birth. You might find it helpful to write down what's important to you and discuss it with your healthcare provider.
Below are some considerations that women have talked about. These may or may not be important to you. These include:
- How you, your family or the people around you view caesarean birth and how that can make you feel.
- How you, your family and the people around you view vaginal birth including your belief about what your body can/cannot do.
- How important it is for you to take/or not take an injection also known as epidural, to help in the birth.
- How important it would be for you to see health providers that you are familiar with during the birth.
- How important it is for you to control some circumstances about the birth. For instance, your birthing environment or the date that you might want to give birth.
- You can share any concerns that you have with your midwife or doctor, and ask questions about birth. If you want to, you can talk to your doctor or midwife about your thoughts and feelings about birth, any concerns you have and ask questions
