Continuous assessment in the form of three critical appraisals of 600 words each (60%) with equal weighting and a 20 minute presentation to course teaching staff assessed on content, presentation delivery and audio-visual impact (40%).

Overview

Patient case presentations

Structure

The ocurse will be conducted over one day and comprise direction on the preparation of four patient cases.

Assessment

Summative assessment of four patient cases conducted in dental practice which have been treated solely by the condidate and each written-up as a case report and submitted for review by the ocurse tutors. Assessment of each case will be undertaken during a clinical viva of one hour's duration. Marks will be allocated for the management of the clincal case,(70%), oral defence of the case (20%) and visual presentation of the case (10%).

Overview

Students will be introduced to research and presentation skills during an initial didactic teaching programme. Each project will be unique and depend on the interests of the student and on-going research work within the department. All research projects will be reviewed by the Programme Coordinator prior to a decision on a suitable project being assigned.

Structure

The course will be conducted over two days (8 hours/day) and comprise didactic teaching in research and presentation skills. In addition, two days with a research supervisor. The project for this course will involve students' self-directed studies on their dissertation with project based on a patient study within the dentist's own practice.

Assessment

Each student will be required to submit a 12500 word thesis on their research project (75%); oral defence of thesis (15%) and thesis presentation (10%)
