Overview
Aims: To provide an understanding of the problems associated with biological conservation in tropical countries and the current techniques available for assessing and managing those problems.
Learning Objectives: By the end of the course you should:
1. be able to describe the processes leading to loss of pristine habitats and extinction of species in tropical countries
2. have detailed knowledge of case studies documenting conservation of biological resources in each of the major tropical ecosystems
3. have a knowledge of the management techniques currently used for protection and rehabilitation of tropical ecosystems.Structure
Average of 3 lectures per week plus a number of group seminars and a workshop.
Assessment
Continual assessment is based on an essay and report.
NB Joint course with level 3 and level 4 students. Tutorial work is MSc-specific.
