About

Biography

I am an academic and practitioner in person- centred counselling and psychotherapy. I am currently Programme Director for the Counselling Skills Course and MSci in Counselling, Psychology and Education.

My PhD focused on providing valuable insights into a relatively unexplored area of counselling - that of the experiences of non-qualified telephone counsellors working in 'help-line' contexts.  The work particularly illustrated the role of cultural differences and internal motivations, along with the potential for mental health impacts and secondary trauma in unpaid volunteers.
