Biography

Dr. Shashika Rathnayaka joined the University of Aberdeen as a Research Fellow in Applied Economics in October 2022. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Griffith University, Australia. Shashika was a recipient of the Griffith University International Postgraduate Research Scholarship, Griffith University Postgraduate Research Scholarship, Griffith University Publication Assistance Scholarship and Tasmania Merit Based Graduate Research Scholarship, Australia. Her research interests are in Agricultural and Food Economics, Development Economics and Econometric Modelling. Prior to the University of Aberdeen, she worked as a Senior Lecturer in  Economics at the Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka and a Teaching Fellow in Economics at Griffith Business School, Griffith University, Australia. She has also taught postgraduate courses at the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka as a Visiting Lecturer.  She is also a fellow at the Scottish Environment, Food and Agriculture Research Institutes (SEFARI).

Shashika has published in international journals, including; Agricultural Economics, Economic Modelling, Applied Economics, Economics Analysis & Policy and Empirical Economics. She recently published her first book, 'Economic Development and Consumption Patterns in Asian Countries' with Springer.

  • Winner of Accounting Finance and Economics, Three Minutes Ph.D. Thesis Competition 2017, Griffith University, Australia.
  • People’s Choice Award at Griffith Business School Ph.D. Poster Competition 2017, Griffith University, Australia.
  • Best Research Presentation Award at the 20th International Conference on Economics and Management, Tokyo, Japan, 2018.
  •  Best Research Presentation in Economics Award at Griffith Business School Ph.D. Symposium 2018, Griffith University, Australia.
  • Vice Chancellor’s Award for the Best Research Presentation in 2010 and 2012, Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka.
