Research Overview
Interested in Scottish, British and Global agricultural practices, with a focus on environmental sustainability within agronomy and plant science. Previous research has included work with root systems and the soil microbiome, specifically in barley and pea crops. Research also carried out on soil compaction from cattle and the effects of their grazing on the soil microbiome.
I have also gained research experience in microbiology and undertook an Applied Microbiology International summer placement looking at the effects of feeding CDT positive or CDT negative strains of E.coli to Caenorhabditis elegans. Researching a possible root for E.coli to transfer to the human food chain.
Current Research
Project: Why is water saving so challenging in Bangladesh rice production?
Researching issues which may effect the ability of local farmers to implement the rice cropping system Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) in Bangladesh. Taking a holistic approach I will look at both biological factors, such as water management and irrigation infrastructure, alongside socio-economic factors, such as gender and education level, which may limit the uptake of AWD as an agricultural technology within the country.
