Biography
Miriam Brazzelli obtained her degree in Physiotherapy from the San Carlo Borromeo Physiotherapy School in 1988, followed by an Honours degree in Psychology (Cognitive Psychology) from the University of Turin, Italy, in 1997. She began her career with appointments in the field of physiotherapy and neuropsychology. In January 1999, she joined the Unit, and in 2005 was awarded a Research Fellowship by the Chief Scientist Office of the Scottish Executive Health Department, which focused on methods for conducting systematic reviews of diagnostic test accuracy studies. She earned her PhD in Public Health Sciences from the University of Edinburgh in 2011. She re-joined the Unit in February 2012 as the lead of the Knowledge Synthesis Programme within the wider Healthcare Assessment Programme. Her research focuses on complex evidence syntheses and health technology assessments, with the aim of evaluating the clinical and cost-effectiveness of both new and existing healthcare, social care and public health interventions.

Research Overview
My research focuses on complex evidence syntheses and health technology assessments (HTAs), aimed at evaluating the clinical and cost-effectiveness of both new and established healthcare interventions. I have expertise in conducting various types of systematic reviews - including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods reviews - across a wide range of topics in healthcare, public health, and social care. This includes work on interventions targeting specific clinical conditions, as well as broader evaluations and policy-relevant evidence syntheses. My work supports evidence-informed decision-making by synthesising diverse forms of evidence to address complex questions in real-world settings.
