Biography

Ewan Bottomley completed their MA and Mres at The University of Edinburgh, before taking on the role as a social psychology Lab Manager there in 2017. In 2019, he joined the University of St. Andrews to complete his PhD in the Schools of Psychology and Physics. In 2023, he joined the University of Aberdeen as a Teaching Fellow. In 2024, he became a Research Fellow in the Person Perception Lab. In 2025, he returned to his role as a Teaching Fellow.

Ewan is the lead of the School of Psychology's Social Committee

Ewan is also a member of Aberdeen University's Person Perception Lab, run by Dr. Doug Martin.

Research

Research Overview

Ewan's research focuses on a wide arrange of topics, publishing in social psychology, the psychology of education, and diversity in STEM. 

Current Research

Education and Development:

Currently, Ewan is focusing on creating and testing interventions for impostor phenomenon in higher education. Ewan's work aims to help those that are struggling with impostor phenomenon and help promote student wellbeing. 

Social:

Ewan is currently examining how social identity is intertwined with the self, using social cognitive measures to investigate aspects of a person's social and personal identities. He is also assisting on some studies focusing on the social modulation of the emotion categorization of faces.
