About

Biography

Claire graduated from Birmingham University in 1998 with a BSc in Physical Geography and has since gained an MSc in Public Health (Medicine) from the University of Aberdeen.

Claire joined the Unit in October 2006, and took up position as the trial manager on the MAPS (Men After Prostate Surgery) trial. MAPS is a £1.3 million project (Funded by NHS R&D Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Programme). In 2008 Claire became the trial manager of EAGLE  an MRC funded international multi-centre pragmatic randomised controlled trial (RCT) to establish whether removal of the lens of the eye for newly diagnosed Primary Angle Closure Glaucoma results in better patient reported health, vision, lower IOP and other outcomes compared with standard management.

In 2015 Claire became the manager of EDNA (Early Detection of Neovascular Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)). EDNA was UK Collaborative Diagnostic Study funded by the NIHR HTA Programme that aimed to discover the optimum non-invasive test strategy that will robustly detect nAMD in unaffected fellow eyes during follow-up in secondary care of persons with nAMD in the first affected eye.

In 2017 Claire began work in a Senior Trial Management Capacity on setting up the UK REBOA Study; an NIHR/HTA funded Emergency Care Trial that looks at the effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness, of Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta (REBOA) for bleeding trauma patients.

After a period of time working away from the Unit (at QMUL and University of Edinburgh respectively) Claire has returned to the unit to set up two NIHR funded studies: AMETHYST is a multicentre, double-blind, placebo-controlled randomised trial comparing a combination of methotrexate (MTX) and mifepristone versus methotrexate alone as a medical treatment for tubal ectopic pregnancy (tEP). Colocap aims to determine the diagnostic accuracy of colon capsule endoscopy compared to standard colonoscopy in patients at risk of colorectal disease.
