UK-India workshop on applied AI for Women in STEM strengthens international collaboration

The University of Aberdeen hosted the UK-India Workshop on Applied AI and Digital Skills for Women in STEM on 30 June 2026.

The event welcomed academics, industry representatives, and project partners from the UK and India as part of the University's ongoing commitment to strengthening international collaboration and supporting women in STEM through applied AI and digital skills.

The workshop formed part of the WINS-AID (Women in STEM through Applied AI and Digital Skills) project, led by the University of Aberdeen in partnership with Vellore Institute of Technology and Technogaze Solutions, India. The project is funded by the British Council through the Going Global Partnerships – Industry Academia TNE Grants programme.

The workshop provided a platform for participants to exchange knowledge and experiences in applied AI, digital skills, transnational education, inclusive curriculum, equality, diversity and inclusion, and supporting women in STEM. The programme also created opportunities to strengthen collaboration between the partner institutions and explore future directions for international education, research, and industry engagement.

The workshop was opened by Professor David McGloin, Head of the School of Natural and Computing Sciences, followed by a welcome address from Professor Aladdin Ayesh, Vice Dean of the Joint Institute of Data Sciences and AI. The programme featured presentations from academic and industry experts, project partners, and an open discussion on future collaboration.

Dr Riazul Islam, Principal Investigator of the WINS-AID project, said: "The workshop provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen our partnership, exchange ideas, and explore new opportunities for collaboration between academia and industry in the UK and India."

The University of Aberdeen was pleased to welcome colleagues from Vellore Institute of Technology and Technogaze Solutions, reinforcing the project's commitment to fostering long-term UK–India collaboration in education, research, and industry engagement. The workshop marked an important milestone in the WINS-AID project, strengthening partnerships and creating opportunities for continued collaboration to support women in STEM and promote inclusive and sustainable digital education.
