School of Education has been selected to host the Thematic Hub, Support for Diverse Classrooms

The School of Education at the University of Aberdeen has been selected to host a new hub to support teachers across Scotland by providing professional learning grounded in the latest research and policy.

The Pedagogy to Support Attainment in Diverse Classrooms research hub aims to build capacity within the profession and strengthen evidence‑informed teaching that directly improves outcomes for learners.

It will engage teachers through the provision of concise research syntheses, practical resources, and facilitated learning opportunities tailored around key themes identified in collaboration with educators, researchers and national stakeholders.

It will also support teachers to explore and develop their practice to generate their own research through practitioner enquiry, working collaboratively in communities of practice.

Utilising the University of Glasgow’s Centre for Teaching Excellence (CfTE) online digital environment, the hub will reach educators across Scotland and address overlapping areas essential to equitable and inclusive education, including:

  • Nurturing relationships and promoting positive behaviour
  • Promoting inclusive pedagogies
  • Thriving through diversity
  • Developing counselling skills to support relationships and attainment
  • Supporting mental health and wellbeing for learners and educators

Catriona MacDonald, Head of School for the School of Education said: “We are delighted to be selected to host the Thematic Hub, which recognises the University of Aberdeen’s long‑standing commitment towards supporting teachers to deliver inclusive and equitable education.

“A core strength of this Hub is its emphasis on practitioner enquiry. By empowering teachers to generate and apply their own research, we are building sustainable capacity within the profession and helping to create classrooms that are truly responsive to the diverse needs of young people.”
